The GAIAD Gets a New Cover

The_GAIAD_Digital

I am pretty damn PLEASED to announce the release of a NEW COVER for The GAIAD by designer Joseph Marsh. Joe’s based out of Colorado Springs and I felt pretty privileged to be able to work directly with such a talented local artist. He didn’t just formulate some quick design based on my description or some vague instructions I gave him, but took a copy of the book to Peru with him, reading it in what I can only imagine were some pretty inspiring places. The result was a wholly original image inspired by the deepest themes of the story. The new cover can be found representing both the Kindle and Print editions of the book:     Will Burcher is a former police officer and current author of “The GAIAD,” a story of ancient secrets not quite forgotten and the positive power of global perspective. He lives and works in Colorado, … READ MORE…

On Receiving a Negative Review

A little time lapse shot with the moon rising over a winter oak. 30 second interval. After I’d read the thing, it took a few moments to identify my reaction. A half-second after that, a mental double-take and a literal LOL. Though not at the review. The review itself was well-written, the author clearly in possession of an active and educated mind. I respected his opinion. Respect, however, can absolutely exist simultaneously with disagreement. This sounds elementary—indeed, it’s a tenet that should be taught (along with so many other important and overlooked things) more vigorously to kids at school and at home. How many seemingly … READ MORE…

“The GAIAD” – an Excerpt

Prologue Head-on it was nearly invisible—a mere point of light as bright only as the faintest and most minor background star. If viewed obliquely, however, it was something different. The inconsequential speck began to elongate and brighten with the angle and it became a distinct and very artificial, linear form. The object began to move, slowly drifting against the ubiquitous stellar backdrop. There was a brief flash, a pulse of platinum light at the object’s tapered rear and it accelerated, its magnitude expanding and it began to stir a sense of size and mass. As it approached, the surface of it became visible—a damasked metal, reflective and shimmering. The ship was bulbous at its front, though the nose appeared sharp, as a teardrop, giving it a vaguely avian form. The rest of the structure tapered long and impossibly acute—the entirety of the craft evoking a sewing needle, traveling in … READ MORE…

An Introduction

Take a look.  The same can also be found in the About page. While Will has always known that writing and the exploration of the human condition would be his “end game,” he has sought out varied professional and educational experiences—resulting in a unique view of our contemporary collective circumstance.  He grew up in a conservative military family and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder.  While at CU, Will discovered Eastern philosophy, notably Zen Buddhism and Taoism.  He chose to obtain a degree in Economics for uniquely personal reasons—viewing the swings and fluctuations of a free-market economy seeking balance as an expression of “the Way” of natural autonomous systems, or more largely, the “Tao.”  He worked in commercial real estate and in finance before making a professional shift toward government.  Will served as both a sheriff’s deputy and police officer outside of Denver for six years.  As an officer he saw evidence … READ MORE…
